José Antonio Jiménez Berni

Dr. Jose Jimenez-Berni (Berni) leads the AgroPhenoLab at the Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (IAS-CSIC) in Spain. His work is dedicated to enhancing Mediterranean agriculture through the strategic use of emerging technologies. Drawing on his experience as a former Team Leader at CSIRO (Australia), Berni specializes in deploying thermal, hyperspectral, and LiDAR sensors for applications in plant breeding, irrigation management, and crop modeling. His current research integrates plant phenomics and machine learning to develop practical solutions for today’s farming challenges, such as precision irrigation in tree orchards and early disease detection in cereals.
